You can team up as a Duo in Blackout, or just play the various MP modes with a buddy (or family member) and you only need one copy of the game even when playing online. That means couch co-op no matter how you're playing Black Ops 4. You can play multiplayer, Zombies and Blackout in split-screen. #5 - You can play every mode in local split-screen with just one copy of the game. That may be a disappointment to some players, especially younger players who cut their teeth on the futuristic games, but I really like the return to "boots on the ground" gameplay. Unlike Black Ops 3, Advanced Warfare and Infinite Warfare, there is no wall-running or double-jumping in the game. As you level up you can replace Specialist powers with more traditional gear like frag grenades. There are a bunch of maps this year so it's going to take a while to learn each one, but once you start learning the maps, understanding the different specialists and loadouts, and just getting more familiar with the game you'll start doing better. Partly this is due to bad spawns, an issue Treyarch is working on, but it's also because the game is just fast, frenzied action non-stop. Seriously, if you haven't played a Call of Duty game in a while, or you're intimidated by twitch shooters in general, get ready to be pwned. It's much faster than WWII was last year, even after that game was updated to have unlimited sprint. Traditional multiplayer is incredibly fast this year. #3 - Multiplayer is super fast and chaotic. You can see the most dangerous places to land on this map. It's also a nice break from traditional multiplayer, providing a much more laid back experience.
No, it won't scratch that single-player campaign itch, but it is a great new addition to the franchise and lots of fun. The map is filled with familiar locations like Nuketown, and you even have vehicles like ATVs and helicopters to ride around in. 100 players descend onto a huge map either in solo, duos or quads and fight to be the last player standing. Activision and Treyarch have jumped on the battle royale hype train that began with PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds and reached pop culture momentum with Fortnite. The good news is that Blackout is very good. Replacing the single-player campaign is 'Blackout' a new game mode in the budding battle royale genre. #2 - There's a new battle royale mode called 'Blackout'
But if you primarily buy Call of Duty games for the campaign, you should steer clear of Black Ops 4. While this is definitely a bummer- Black Ops 1 and 2 are among my favorites in the series-there's still plenty of content to keep you busy.
